During Halloween people are searching for the scariest movies on the market. But let’s not forget the childhood nightmares we have experienced from supposedly “family-friendly” movies. Without further ado, here are 5 of the most horrifying scenes from kids movies.
5. Toy Story
Toy Story in itself is a fun, vibrant movie about friendly toys. Innocent enough, right? WRONG. We get a nice tour of Sid's demented idea of fun: torturing toys. How troubled does a child have to be to make that doll?! Suddenly, I don't think toys coming to life is a good idea.
4. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
No, I’m not talking about the 2005 rendition starring Johnny Depp. This is from the classic 1971 film starring Gene Wilder. The horrific trip down the chocolate stream makes me question whether Charlie was really lucky for winning. Where can I return my golden ticket?
It seems Matilda lives in a lawless society where there are no child protection laws. Miss Trunchbull has thrown children by their pigtails, forced a child into over-consumption of chocolate cake, and threatens children with whips. Seriously, how did she get away with all of this??
Lions and monkeys and wasps OH MY! The entire movie of Jumanji is just a horrific experience as these children are trapped in a board game and have to survive these deadly scenarios. The characters then just subject themselves from one deadly scenario to another. I think I'll stick with Monopoly.
As if dolls weren’t scary enough already. These doll-like representations of your friends and loved ones take the cake. The visual aspect throughout the movie is disturbing. Imagine the production team having to stare at these dolls for hours since it was a stop-motion film *shudders*.
I hope this has inspired you to re-watch some childhood movies this Halloween. Also... Happy Halloween!
