Last time, we talked about ways to beat procrastination. With that skill now mastered, you may begin to wonder how to keep your morale high while working.
1. Stay Positive
The best motivational tactic is to maintain a positive attitude! If you think something is going to suck then you will almost definitely be miserable because you entered the situation with a defeated mindset. If you come in thinking positively, you will most likely have a more enjoyable experience. At least try to fake it until you make it. I mean it takes more muscles to frown than smile, right?
2. Take a Break
If you’re having a bad day or are stuck on a particularly difficult assignment, it’s better to take a break from everything for about a half hour to an hour and do something that you love instead of miserably and begrudgingly inching through your work. Go out for ice cream or maybe use those bath salts you’ve been saving so that when you get back to work, you are refreshed and ready to take on the world! (Or at least your assignment).
3. Study Buddies
I always find that difficult material or discouraging assignments are always better if you are
suffering, I mean working, with a friend. This will only work, however, if you choose the right friend. Make sure your study buddy really wants to study or you both might fall back into the pit of procrastination. Just try to keep each other motivated and focused!
4. Break it Down!
Many of you have probably heard of the Pomodoro technique before, but for those who haven’t, let me break it down for you. The basis of this technique is that our concentration wanes after a certain time period of working. This, thus, allows you to break down everything you need to get down into little bite-sized chunks, preferably 25 minutes, followed by a small break. Now that’s easy to digest!
