The Ultimate Finals Survival Guide

Finals Week is quickly approaching Trojans, but no need to despair! This means the semester is almost over and then it’s time to relax. Whether this is your first finals season or your last, use these helpful tips to Fight On through finals towards that long awaited vacation!  

 

Get Your Schedule Straight  

There’s a reason people have nightmares about getting dates and times of exams wrong. It’s a big deal! Make a list of a special calendar with dates, times, and locations of your finals. Some finals are held in different rooms that your typical class so be especially aware of where the exam is held! Make sure to double-check your syllabi to confirm everything.

 

Study Smarter, Not Harder

Studying is important, don’t get us wrong. But there is a thing as too much studying. We’ve all seen the movies, where the protagonist pulls an all-nighter, only to find that he’s slept right through this alarm. That doesn’t have to be you, if you manage your study time appropriately. Make sure you plan out when and where you’ll study, what tests are coming up first so you can prioritize, and give yourself a break. You’ll feel better on exam day if you schedule in time to sleep and relax beforehand.

 

Brain Food

It’s important to take care of your body if you want to do your best on exam day. Eat food that’s going to give you energy and make you feel full and satisfied while studying and the morning of the final. Eat lots of grains, fresh veggies, and lean proteins, and make sure to have a high protein breakfast the day of to give you the energy to push through the end of the exam. No sugary cereals!

 

Silence is Golden

It’s important to silence any distractions that are going to keep you from retaining information. Turn your phone off or put it in your bag while you’re studying. It’s also a great idea to use your phone as a reward. Set goals for yourself, whether it’s covering a certain amount of material or studying for a certain amount of time and then reward yourself for your accomplishments with some phone time.

 

Celebrate!

Once your last exam is done, celebrate! You deserve it! Treat yourself to a nice dinner or go see that movie you’ve been dying to catch. Let it be reminder that hard work really does pay off.
